A loyalty program for salons that clients actually use
Rebooking is the whole business. Here is the lightest-weight loyalty mechanic that moves it — without another platform owning your client list.
The salon math
A client who visits every 6 weeks is worth roughly 9 visits a year. One who "loved it!" and never rebooked is worth 1. Almost everything you could spend marketing money on is worth less than converting a few one-timers into six-weekers — and that's the only job a salon loyalty program has.
Why punch cards underperform in salons
Coffee-shop punch cards work because visits are frequent: nine visits is a fortnight for a regular. At salon cadence, nine visits is a year — the reward is too far away to change behavior. The fix is a shorter card: 5 visits, with a reward worth wanting (a free treatment, not 10% off retail).
Keep it off the booking platform
Booking software loyalty modules look convenient, but they deepen the platform's ownership of your client relationship — and they vanish if you switch software. A standalone card that lives in the client's phone survives any tooling change you make later.
The setup that works
- 5 stamps → free conditioning treatment (or 50% off a blow-dry).
- QR poster at reception; clients scan while they pay.
- Front desk stamps from a phone browser — two seconds, no POS change.
- Mention it once at checkout: "scan that and today counts as your first stamp."
What to watch monthly
Two numbers: members joined, and members with 2+ visits. The second is your rebooking signal. If it stalls, the reward isn't pulling — make it better, not cheaper.
